Building 10: so much more to offer
August 2014
New bicycle parking and amenities, a refurbished Student Centre and the upgrade of the Jones St lift lobby are now complete, significantly improving the staff and student experience in Building 10.
A range of new seating has also been added on level 2, including planters with seating (see image right) along the ground-floor atrium and informal lounge seating at the entrance to the arcade (image below). Not only has this improved the appearance of the atrium but has created more space for informal catch-ups and study.

On your bike
On level 1, staff and students from across the university now have access to:
- 288 bicycle spaces (note bicycle parking on level 0 will close from Monday 18 August)
- 14 toilets and 28 showers (both male and female)
- 260 lockers
- A new access stair from level 1 (basement) to level 2 (ground)

Access to parking and lockers
The new bicycle parking is secure. To gain access to the parking cage or shower facilities contact UTS Security on security.access@uts.edu.au, who will program your staff card accordingly. To open the cage, hold your staff card flush to the card reader.
Allocation of lockers will be on a first in, first serve basis. To apply for a locker, contact Central Services (Maryanne.claridge@uts.edu.au).
Student Centre opens for Semester 2
Building 10’s new Student Centre officially opened for the start of semester, boasting a larger service desk with digital screen and dramatic lighting.
The Student Centre in Building 1 (level 4) has now closed with services consolidated into the new Building 10 facility. Find out more here.
Construction of a self-service counter and meeting pods will be ongoing until the end of the month.
New look lobby for Jones St
Anyone who has caught a life in Building 10 recently will have noticed some changes to the lobby. All six Jones St lifts (four at present while two remain offline) are accessible from the one level, following the completion of upgrade works. An illuminated UTS sign has also been erected on the entrance of the lobby from the level 2 atrium.
New connections
It is now possible to walk seamlessly from Building 10 into the new FEIT Building (Building 11), with the connection on ground floor into the new arcade (nestled between the two buildings) now open.
Glass, automatic doors located behind the Student Centre open out onto the arcade, which connects into Building 11 via the new Penny Lane café.
The arcade will soon boast a dramatic entrance from Jones St, with a green wall on Building 10 set to be installed in the coming month.
Connections into Building 11 from Building 10 are also possible via a series of bridge links that are now open on four levels.

Lift update
After the new (and improved) lifts 5 and 6 came back online last month, lifts 1 and 2 in the Jones St lobby have been de-commissioned. They will be out of action until the end of September 2014. But it will be worth the wait. Following this, lifts 3 and 4 will come offline.
Lift 8 on the Wattle St-side of the building is also offline following the completion of the lift 9 upgrade. The three Wattle St lifts are being upgrade one at a time to minimise disruption.
For questions or concerns regarding lift construction or the contractor, email Ranjan Chandrasena.
Lift malfunctions are to be reported to Building Services on x7476 or 7477.
