School of Public Health Annual Report 2022
The year in review
- Completed the transition to online teaching of postgraduate teaching programs in Health Services Management and Public Health.
- Introduced new majors in Indigenous Health and Health Promotion in the BHSc.
- 10 leadership seminars were held in 2022, entitled ‘The Future of Health and Social Care Industries’, organised by the HSM team in conjunction with our industry collaborators and adjunct industry fellows.
- 7 Indigenous scholarships were awarded during 2022 to students for their studies in Diabetes Education and Management.
- The Health Services Management team was awarded the UTS Learning and Teaching Awards, Learning Futures Team Category for Health OPM.
- Introduced peer-reviewing of subjects in the Bachelor of Health Science degree.
- 3 year reaccreditation was gained from the Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA), applauding the Grad Cert in Diabetes course as the most outstanding course in Australia.
- 40 industry representatives were involved in delivering the Graduate Certificate in Diabetes Education course across the year.
- 5 staff were awarded academic promotions, 4 staff were appointed to industry boards, and 6 staff were recipients of academic and industry awards.
- 20 faculty staff attended the Girra Maa staff facilitated ‘Press Play’ cultural capability training in 2022.
- Indigenous knowledges were embedded throughout all curricula, assessments and research.
- New advisory board was introduced consisting of industry partners and SoPH leadership group.
- Events held over the year: writing retreats, research retreats, school planning day, school retreat, lunchtime seminar series, morning teas, Girra Maa showcase, staff social events, and Girra Maa hosted the annual ADARRN Symposium.
- Over 20 national and state committees benefitted from Girra Maa staff involvement across the year.
- 155 peer reviewed publications were authored during the year.
- 1 community-engaged research project with Indigenous communities and other populations experiencing health inequities were progressed in 1 2022.
- The HSM team were awarded three contracts from the NSW Clinical Excellence Commission.
$4.9 million was awarded, making 2022 the most successful year to date in terms of research income.
