Installation of the structural framework for the façade, including window frames, is now complete.
Glass has begun to be installed into approximately 700 windows that will cover the building’s exterior and the first layer of render will be painted onto the façade in the coming weeks.
It will take approximately 10 weeks to apply eight layers of render to the façade, which is comprised of 85% recycled material and will have an off-white, marbled finish.
From mid-year, the façade will start to be on show as the scaffolding is slowly removed.

Internal progress
A mock-up of a typical office, complete with furniture and glazing, has been set up on level 5 of the building and partitioning works have commenced to offices, classrooms and bathrooms across all levels.
Meanwhile:
- The building’s four lifts have all been installed and tested. In a weeks’ time the temporary lift on site will be taken offline and workers or visitors will start to use the permanent lifts
- Breakthrough works into Building 4 (levels 3 to 6) to create links into the Thomas St Building are now complete with services relocation progressing. Hoardings have been erected and will remain up until the building is finished
Sit and enjoy the view on Alumni Green
A number of steel bench seats have been installed in the Garden in recent weeks, with more, timber seating set to be installed in about early June.
- Additional seating will create a series of ‘garden pods’ which will eventually have power outlets for laptops and phones
- The pods will be powered up in approximately October 2014
In other Alumni Green news, waterproofing works to the eastern section of the new ‘Green’ is now complete. This expanded section of green will be completed in October 2014 along with the Thomas St Building.
