You will not be able to withdraw yourself from subjects after the census date of the current teaching period. To withdraw from a subject after census date you will need to submit an eRequest with a statement explaining why you wish to withdraw. Students may choose one of the two options below.

Please note that  a Withdrawn/Fail or Fail grade on your academic transcript may have an impact on your academic progression and your ability to meet the minimum rate of progress for your course.

Important: after the final assessment period (or the end of formal classes for Online, Parallel and Short teaching sessions), you can no longer apply to withdraw from a subject with Enrolled or Withheld/Pending status and instead you will need to get in touch with your subject coordinator or faculty to finalise your result.

If you received a Passing grade for a subject, your subject withdrawal application will be cancelled. You may still be eligible to request a review of a result.

Withdrawal options

Option A - Withdraw after census date with academic and financial penalty

Option A subject withdrawal after the census date of the current teaching period will mean:

  • You will have a Withdrawn/Fail  recorded against that subject on your academic transcript

You are financially liable for the associated tuition fees.  You can only request this option on or before the last day of the final assessment period (or the end of formal classes for Online, Parallel and Short teaching session).

Option B – Withdrawing after census date with no academic penalty only (financial penalty remains)

Withdrawing with no academic penalty means you are still financially liable for the subject. You may apply for withdrawal with no academic penalty only if you believe your ability to continue studying was affected by circumstances beyond your control. To apply:

  1. Submit an eRequest to withdraw from your subject(s), selecting  Option B, Withdrawing with no academic penalty only.
  2. In your eRequest attach any relevant documentation you have to support your case.

Supporting documentation

Your supporting documentation should demonstrate:

  • The date it became apparent you could not continue with your studies
  • The date your circumstances first began
  • Whether your circumstances changed after census date, and if so, the date they changed and to what extent
  • How your circumstances impacted your ability to study

Receiving your outcome

Withdrawal with no academic penalty is approved: If your withdrawal with no academic penalty is approved, your academic transcript will record a grade of Withdrawn and the financial liability will remain.

Withdrawal with no academic penalty not approved: If your withdrawal with no academic penalty is not approved, your academic transcript will record a grade of Withdrawn/Fail or Fail and the financial and academic liability will remain.

Applying to remove academic penalty only after the session has ended

If you wish to apply for withdrawal with no academic penalty after the final assessment period/end of formal classes, you will be required to submit your application in writing via eRequest (current student) / Online Enquiry (previous student), attaching all relevant documentation and the Director, Student Administration or delegate will review your application.

Applying to remove financial and academic penalty after you have already withdrawn or completed your subject

If you believe:

  • you were affected by special circumstances, AND
  • you were unable to continue studying and withdrew from a subject(s) after the census date had passed, OR
  • you were unable to successfully complete the requirements of a subject(s) which resulted in a Fail grade

You can apply for a Refund or remission due to special circumstances. You will need to have a Withdrawn, Withdrawn/Fail or Fail grade recorded against the subject before applying.
