Classroom participation and individual/group presentations require you to speak up and present well. The only way to improve is to do it, again and again, with constructive feedback. HELPS provides a safe and supportive environment for you to build your confidence and improve your speaking/presentation skills.
Conversations@UTS provides a great opportunity to practise your English conversation skills and meet new people in a friendly and relaxed environment. These two hour group sessions aim to develop your confidence in joining casual conversations – socially, at university and at work. Come and join the discussion!
HELPS Buddy Program
Our HELPS buddy program matches international students with students, staff and local community volunteers. Sometimes they exchange languages; sometimes they get together once a week and speak English. It’s a great way to improve your listening, conversation and pronunciation skills in an informal, Australian way!
HELPS Talk Fest
TalkFest is a free, fun-filled event that connects international students with local volunteers to promote cultural exchange. Held most Fridays from 2.30 to 4.30pm in the UTS HELPS Volunteer Lounge (CB01.05.01) (during session and excluding public holidays) , TalkFest is an opportunity to eat free pizza, play indoor games and participate in rounds of speedfriending!
We run daily workshops throughout the Autumn and Spring teaching periods on the following topics:
- Improve Your Writing
- Improve Your Grammar
- Improve Your Speaking
- 2019 Orientation Workshops
At 15-minute drop-in advice sessions you can ask quick questions about your studies and assessments (except for any subject content matter) without having to make an appointment.
After you have attended a drop-in advice session, if a longer consultation is required you may be able to book in for a 40-minute one-to-one consultation. Having a one-to-one consultation is an opportunity for an in-depth discussion in relation to your specific needs on an assessment.
