UTS Counselling can provide counselling via phone and videoconferencing platform Zoom to UTS students.

UTS Counselling is committed to inclusivity. We are here to support all UTS students. Counsellors have completed Indigenous Cultural Awareness Training and are part of the UTS Ally Network supporting gender, sex and sexuality diverse students.

Individual counselling

We can help you:

  • prioritise, make important decisions and manage time
  • manage energy levels more effectively and deal with stress
  • share and express painful feelings or confidential concerns
  • develop new strategies for dealing with relationships, fears and unwanted behaviour patterns
  • develop effective group work skills
  • understand and deal with problems relating to mental health, alcohol and other drugs, body image or eating problems, and support around matters of gender and sexuality
  • deal with UTS administrative issues when other avenues have failed.
We have:

  • counsellors who can help international students with personal, practical and administrative problems
  • counsellors with special skills in assessing and treating more serious psychological problem
  • counsellors who can provide counselling in languages other than English (Mandarin, Cantonese, Indonesian).

                 Mandarin: Mon - Fri

                 Cantonese: Wed - Fri

Indonesian : Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri

In some cases, your counsellor may refer you to another professional who can better help you; for example a private psychologist, psychiatrist, GP, and specialist mental health services.

UTS students can report and refer other students for support

If you are a student and are concerned for the safety of another student or would like to discuss any related issues, please call the Counselling Unit on 9514 1177 to ask to speak with a Counsellor or email at student.services@uts.edu.au. They will discuss with you all relevant next best steps. If the matter of concern is life threatening please call 000.

Thinking of leaving university?

Don't drop out, drop in!

Having doubts about staying on at university is something that affects a surprising number of students. Before you make any decisions, it’s a good idea to have a chat with someone who might be able to help you deal with your concerns. Feel free to come to us, or consult with your lecturer, tutor, academic advisor, academic liaison officer or course coordinator to be fully informed of your options.

You can check out our video below dealing with this issue, or read the transcript.

If you are thinking of pursuing an alternative course or career pathway, you may also be interested in consulting the UTS Careers Service.

Acknowledgement of Country

UTS acknowledges the Gadigal People of the Eora Nation and the Boorooberongal People of the Dharug Nation upon whose ancestral lands our campuses now stand. We would also like to pay respect to the Elders both past and present, acknowledging them as the traditional custodians of knowledge for these lands.
