Through events, partnerships, campaigns, community initiatives and opportunities to connect with the UTS Sustainability team, everyone in our community can contribute to practical action and positive change on campus and beyond.
Events
There are many sustainability events at UTS, both large and small, some regular and others one-off.
Our showcase event is Global Goals Month in September and is a great opportunity to find out about the great work being done across the university to address the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Other annual events include
O-Day
Drop by the Sustainability stall during Autumn and Spring orientation weeks at the beginning of each academic session for loads of information, competitions and more.
Earth hour
Earth hour is in March and at UTS we run energy-saving activities across the campus.
Climate Action Week Sydney
This event runs in March and celebrates climate action. UTS is a major venue partner which presents a great opportunity to engage with CAWS events on campus.
Green Week
Green Week is hosted in first semester and provides great ideas and opportunities to make more sustainable choices in your everyday life.
Plastic Free July
A worldwide event that seeks to reduce plastic use and plastic pollution. Where possible UTS is replacing single-use plastic items with reusable, recyclable and compostable alternatives.
Partnerships & Community
UTS collaborates with a variety of partners on big and small initiatives.
We work closely with the City of Sydney contributing to various elements of their 2030 sustainability vision.
We work with neighbours from the Central Park development on water recycling and potential energy and water sharing opportunities.
UTS was a founding member of the Green Building Council of Australia.
UTS is a member of Australasian Campuses Towards Sustainability (ACTS), a leading inter-institutional body advocating for best practice sustainability within the operations, curriculum and research of the tertiary education sector. Our membership also provides students and staff access to range of member only sustainability resources.
Alumni
Established in 2007, the network is committed to developing a community of practice and greater awareness of sustainability issues.
Always keen to welcome new members, the alumni network provides professional and social opportunities through events, workshops and related initiatives.
