A significant, yet largely un-recognised aspect of domestic abuse is financial abuse. And it is much more prevalent than many of us realise.
We're talking about economic or financial abuse: a method of control and coercion that involves the stripping away of a person's financial independence. And the reality is this relatively hidden form of abuse is more common than many think.
So - how does economic abuse manifest? What are some of the structural reasons as to why it's allowed to occur? And what can victims, as well as governments and institutions, do to identify and prevent economic abuse?
