UTS-Vietnam Government Project 89 PhD Scholarship

Value

The Vietnamese Government will provide for onshore study:

  • a tuition fee scholarship of up to $25,000 USD per year (2023 rate)
  • a stipend scholarship of $1,120 USD per month (2023 rate)
  • an international return airfare and travel allowances
  • Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the time spent in Australia (up to $1,000 USD per year)

In addition, UTS faculties may agree to provide:

  • top up funding to support the full tuition fee (supplement the Project 89 funding), being the difference between the scholarship jointly-funded between UTS and the Vietnamese Government (Project 89)
  • a supplementary (top up) living allowance up to the current UTS base stipend scholarship rate. In 2023, this will be A$32,500 per annum pro rata

This scholarship is jointly funded by UTS and Project 89 for a maximum of 3 years and 6 months.

Overview

Project 89 provides lecturers at tertiary intuitions in Vietnam with an opportunity to complete their PhD. This joint scholarship program supports high-achieving Vietnamese candidates to undertake a PhD at UTS. This scholarship is only available for lecturers at Vietnamese tertiary institutions seeking to complete a PhD. UTS is proud to be working with the Vietnamese government to make these scholarships available under Project 89.

The program aims to address Vietnam’s future industry and workforce needs, prioritising key research areas such as engineering, digital technologies, biotechnologies and energy & environment.

Who is eligible?

Eligible international applicants:

  • Must be a citizen of Vietnam
  • Must be a full-time, tenured faculty member of a Vietnamese higher education institution
  • Meet UTS’s competitive scholarship selection process requirement, and
  • Meet UTS English language proficiency requirements
