How to apply

Mentors are high-performing students embedded in key introductory subjects (including 22108 Accounting and Accountability and 21212 People and Organisations), acting as an important bridge between the teaching team and students.

Senior mentors are invited to mentor identified students who may require additional one-on-one support.

Each year, mentors collectively support the over 2500 students commencing in the Bachelor of Business, helping to enhance the classroom experience in first-semester subjects and to develop confidence.

What it takes to be a mentor

Anyone can be a mentor; however, our most successful mentors want to connect with students, pass on their knowledge and pay it forward.

Our successful mentors also have a passion for the subject and for working with their assigned tutors to enhance the student experience.

Skills mentors develop

By participating in class to support collaborative-style activities and share personal experiences, the mentoring program is a unique opportunity to develop communication, empathy and leadership skills, deepen subject knowledge and feel the immense satisfaction of paying it forward to the next generation of students.

In addition, mentors further develop their skills and brush up on subject-specific content in pre-semester training and through ongoing guidance.

Our mentors belong to a unique network of like-minded student leaders. Mentors attain prestigious recognition from UTS, including an awards ceremony and mentor status added to their degree transcript.

Mentor experience

Melissa Dib, UTS student and UTS Business Mentor

Melissa Dib, Bachelor of Business Bachelor of Law

“The Mentoring Program has been one of the most fulfilling extracurriculars I have engaged in at UTS, allowing me to meet some incredible people, develop connections and have so many great opportunities.

Being able to mentor a group of students and help them with their transition to university, as well as being able to work with academics to develop my own teaching skills and confidence, has been such a rewarding experience.

I can’t thank the program enough for everything it has done for me and I strongly recommend becoming a mentor to any UTS student – you won’t be disappointed!”

Sergeo Domtchenko, UTS student and UTS Business Mentor

Sergeo Domtchenko, Bachelor of Business

“Of all the things I have been a part of at university, this would have to be at the top of the list. Not only do you learn vital professional skills such as communication, collaboration, presentation and empathy, but I have also met so many incredible people along the way.

It's truly fantastic to see so many people from completely different walks of life coming together for a common purpose, and that is to help others in unlocking their true potential.

I can't recommend this program enough to anybody who is looking to get ahead professionally!”

How to apply to be a UTS Business Mentor

The UTS Business Mentor program recruits new mentors in January and June of each year.

If you receive a credit or higher score in a participating subject, you will automatically receive an invitation to apply.

Mentors can also invite identified mentees to join the program as well.

If you are interested in being a mentor or want more information, please email business.mentors@uts.edu.au.
