The following information is for recipients of honours scholarships managed by the UTS Business School.

UTS Business School will notify all scholarship applicants of the outcome of their application shortly after the selection process is complete.

Conditions of Award

The Conditions of Award is an important legal document that outlines your obligations while receiving your scholarship. It will also outline the University's responsibilities in administering the scholarship.

Please read the Conditions of Award below in full before accepting your scholarship offer. By accepting your scholarship, you are also agreeing to the Conditions of Award.

Scholarship payments

Scholarship payments are only made through Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) to your nominated valid Australian Bank account. Recipients are required to provide their bank details in My Student Admin. This is the preferred method of payment across the university because it is the safest and most reliable.

To provide us with your bank details, or to update them, please follow these steps:

  1. Log into My Student Admin
  2. Click on the 'Personal’ tab
  3. On the left hand menu, click on 'Bank Account Details'
  4. Click on ‘Add/Change my account details’
  5. Select 'Electronic Funds Transfer’ under the payment method
  6. Tick ‘Local’ under Bank account (please note that we only pay scholarships to an Australian Bank)
  7. Enter the Bank Account Holder name
  8. Enter the name of your bank under Bank name
  9. Select ‘BSB’ under Bank Code Type
  10. Enter your 6 digit BSB code number under BSB
  11. Enter your Bank account number
  12. Click 'Save'

Holding more than one scholarship

In most cases, multiple scholarships cannot be held simultaneously. There may be some exceptional cases where more than one scholarship may be awarded if an equity scholarship based on exceptional circumstances is approved.

Conditions and rules regarding multiple scholarships can be found in the Conditions of Award.

Deferring a scholarship

A scholarship offer cannot be deferred. Students are welcome to re-apply for a scholarship in a future round.

Ongoing eligibility

The Conditions of Award outlines information about the ongoing eligibility criteria required to continue receiving your scholarship. If your study circumstances change, please contact the UTS Business School immediately for further advice. The following are some examples of types of ongoing eligibility requirements:

  • Academic Progress: The academic progress of recipients is reviewed each session to determine their eligibility to continue receiving their scholarship.
  • Enrolment: Recipient enrolment is reviewed each session. Most scholarships require recipients to be enrolled in a full-time study load. For these scholarships, students wanting to undertake part-time study must apply to the UTS Scholarships Office. Failure to advise the Scholarships Office of enrolment changes may result in the scholarship being terminated.
  • Financial Disadvantage: Some scholarships require recipients to demonstrate financial disadvantage. In most instances, financial disadvantage is verified through the receipt of means-tested Centrelink benefits.

Declaring scholarship payments to the Australian Taxation Office

UTS does not withhold PAYG tax from coursework scholarship or award payments. It is the recipient's responsibility to check whether the payments they are receiving are classified as taxable income. Please visit the ATO website (opens in an external site) to determine whether your scholarship payments are classified as taxable income.

If you have any further questions regarding scholarship taxation, please visit the ATO website  (opens in an external site) or phone 13 28 61.

Scholarships payments and Centrelink

It is important to declare your scholarship payment to Centrelink if you are receiving benefits.

Please contact Centrelink (opens an external site) for information on how scholarship payments may affect your Centrelink benefit.

Australian Higher Education Graduation Statement (AHEGS)

The details of the scholarship will be recorded on the Australian Higher Education Graduation Statement (AHEGS) after you graduate.
