UTS celebrates the exceptional service of its academics, alumni and associates whose leadership has been recognised in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours List.
Outstanding members of the UTS community have been honoured with awards in the Order of Australia and other award categories in the list published yesterday.
UTS Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Andrew Parfitt congratulated the recipients, noting their significant contributions across fields including forensic science, social inclusion, computer science, creative writing and higher education administration.
“The King’s Birthday Honours once again highlight the profound impact that members of the UTS community are having in shaping a better future for Australia and beyond,” Professor Parfitt said.
“Their commitment and service exemplifies the values we champion. We are immensely proud of their achievements and the inspiration they provide to our students, staff and partners.”

The UTS-affiliated academics, alumni and associates on the list include:
Distinguished Professor Claude Roux AO
Professor Roux has been made an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to forensic science, technological development, law enforcement, ethics and tertiary education.
He is a world-leading authority in forensic science who has helped define the field through his work on the Sydney Declaration, a statement defining forensics as a distinctive academic and holistic research-based discipline.
Professor Roux is a pioneer in building the scientific discipline of forensics in Australia and globally, in his roles as Distinguished Professor in forensic science at UTS and Director of the Centre for Forensic Science. More
Professor Attila Brungs AO
Professor Brungs has been made an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to tertiary education, leadership, research and innovation, and social justice and equity.
A distinguished leader in higher education and current Vice-Chancellor and President of UNSW, he has been a strong advocate for the role of universities, research and innovation.
Professor Brungs served as Vice-Chancellor and President of UTS from 2014 to 2021 having spent the five years prior as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research). More
Emeritus Professor Simon Darcy AM
Professor Darcy has been made a Member of the Order of Australia for his distinguished service to tertiary education, inclusion and accessible environments.
He has made an outstanding contribution to improving the rights of all people to fully participate in their communities, specialising in developing inclusive organisational approaches for marginalised groups including people with disability.
Professor Darcy spent more than a decade as Professor of Management at UTS and was co-lead of its Disability Research Network. More
Emeritus Professor Jenny Edwards AM
Professor Edwards has been made a Member of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to the information technology sector and tertiary education.
A pioneer in advocating for women in information technology, she played a leading role in building the field of computer science in Australia and was prominent in several industry and education bodies.
Professor Edwards spent many decades working as an academic at UTS including as Head of Computer Studies and in the UTS Business School.
Professor Graeme Harper AM
Professor Harper has been made a Member of the Order of Australia for his significant service to literature, education and creative writing. An author and academic, he was the first alumnus of the UTS Doctor of Creative Arts in 1993.
Ursula Dubosarsky AM
Ms Dubosarsky has been made a Member of the Order of Australia for her significant service to literature as the author of children’s and adult books. A children’s author, she was a former lecturer in children’s literature at UTS.
Robin Cummins OAM
Mr Cummins was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for service to veterans and the community. A community leader, he was a course advisor in business at UTS.
Scott Nash OAM
Mr Nash was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for service to local government, the law and legal profession. A local magistrate, he was a lecturer in environmental planning and development law at UTS from 2010 to 2020.
Celena Ping Yu OAM
Ms Yu was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for service to business education and trade. A business leader, she was a guest lecturer and course director in accounting and finance at UTS.
