Global Exchange allows you to study overseas at a UTS partner university for one or two sessions and gain credit for your UTS degree.

How does exchange work?

UTS has exchange agreements with partner universities worldwide that allow students from the partner to study at UTS, and UTS-students to study at the partner university. This means that by going on exchange, you’re basically ‘exchanging’ your spot at UTS with a student from another university for one or two sessions.

While on exchange, you remain enrolled full-time at UTS, and you get credit for the subjects you complete at the partner university towards your UTS degree. In most cases, you will be able to go on exchange without adding additional time on to your degree, but this can vary for some students.

What does it cost?

As you ‘exchange your spot’ with a student from a partner university, there is no additional tuition fee for going on exchange. You will continue to pay your regular tuition fees at UTS.

There will of course be costs for living in another country. We estimate that you need approximately AUD$10,000 for one session of exchange, but this can vary depending on:

  • living costs in host country
  • your lifestyle
  • current exchange rate
  • type of housing/accommodation
  • travel plans in addition to your travel to and in your host country

It is important to plan a budget and prepare for your time overseas by researching the living costs in your host country. Check out the partner university feedback provided in CareerHub to find more information.

Some countries, including the USA, require you to provide evidence that you are able to support yourself financially when you apply. In such cases, you may be required to purchase additional insurance and or pay a fee at the host institution to cover extra-curricular programs or student union activities.

Finally, don’t forget to check the scholarships and grants that we have on offer, and the loans and payments you can organise, to support you with the costs of going on exchange!

Can I study in English?

The majority of our partner universities teach in English; therefore you are not required to speak the language of your host country. However, going on exchange is also an opportunity to learn a new language, even if you will not study in that language.

If you are learning a language other than English at UTS and wish to study in that language while on exchange, you will need to have attained UTS level 8 language proficiency before your departure.

Register in the Global Exchange Program on CareerHub
