• Am I eligible for exchange?

  Most UTS students can go on exchange through the UTS Global Exchange program, but there are some restrictions, including minimum academic requirements and when you can go in your degree.

• How does exchange work?

  UTS has exchange agreements with partner universities worldwide. This allows UTS students to study overseas and students from our partner universities to study at UTS. 

  While on exchange, you stay enrolled full‑time at UTS and earn credit (18-24cp) for subjects completed at your host university.

• What are the costs for exchange?

  There is no additional tuition fee for going on exchange. You will continue to pay your regular tuition fees at UTS.

  Before applying, consider the expenses associated with living in another country. We estimate that you need approximately AUD$15,000 for one session of exchange but this depends on:

  • living costs in the host country
  • your lifestyle
  • the current exchange rate
  • your accommodation
  • your travel plans

• When can I go on exchange with my UTS degree?

  You must complete your 1st year at UTS. Most degree allow you to go from 2nd year but some courses have additional criteria around when you can go on exchange.

  Depending on your course, it might be possible to go in your final session but you need to be aware of the following:

  • Graduation may be delayed if the partner university transcript or exchange results aren't received on time
  • The timing may impact applications to further studies
  • You won't be eligible for the OS-HELP loan

• Do I get to choose my host university?

  When you apply for exchange, you can list up to 5 partner universities from the UTS exchange partner database.

  If successful, we will offer you an exchange place at one of your preferred universities. 

• Do I have to study full-time on exchange?

  Yes, students have to study the equivalent of a full-time UTS study load overseas – minimum 18cp and maximum 24cp.

  UTS international students are required to do a minimum of 24cp.

• How long can I go for on exchange?

  You can go for 1 or 2 sessions, depending on the partner university and what your course allows you to do. 

• Will I need a visa and book my own accommodation?

  Students must have a valid passport and, for some countries, a student visa. Visit the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade website (opens an external site) to learn more about visas and to find your nearest embassy or consulate.

  If you are an international student you may need to apply for a student visa for your exchange host country from your home country. Contact the embassy or consulate of your host country to find out more.

  Students are responsible for arranging accommodation for their exchange program. Accommodation options will vary depending on the host university. Some universities provide on-campus housing, while others require students to source it themselves.

• Am I covered by travel insurance?

  UTS offers all UTS students going on exchange comprehensive travel insurance. The university also partners with International SOS (ISOS)  (opens an external site), a 24-hour emergency resource centre. 

  The travel insurance cover is available for a maximum 365 days from the date of travel for each period overseas. Students should contact UTS Insurance (insurance@uts.edu.au) if they have questions regarding this. 

  Note: some partner universities may require you to take out additional compulsory insurance.
