GLAMSLAM is a forum for those working in the GLAM sector as well as those who collaborate with them. Therefore it features three participant-driven formats that ensure the programme reflects the issues and concerns of archivists and curators, digital humanists, collection managers, education officers and librarians, as well as academics and researchers.  These are:

  • Lightning Talks
  • Showcase Booths & Posters
  • GLAMJAM sessions

Lightning Round

Our Lightning Round of talks at GLAMSLAM is designed showcase projects and possibilities. Lightning talks are short 3 minute presentations similar to a Pecha Kucha presentation but without restrictions on time spent on each slide. They give other attendees an insight into your work or your current  challenges, enabling follow-up opportunities.  Lightning Talks work well in conjunction with a Showcase Booths (see below) but they could also be a standalone talk. 

Topics might include:

  • current projects or exhibitions
  • future areas you'd liked to pursue
  • collections that could benefit from further study
  • a call out for expertise, or partners you'd like to find
  • demonstration of a digital tool
  • anything else!

Showcase Booths & Posters

GLAMSLAM showcase booths will complement the Lightning Talks. We welcome both 2D or 3D exhibits.  You might:

  • bring interesting project outputs 
  • set-up a laptop on which others can explore your Digital Humanities project
  • display collection items, exhibition catalogues or publications 
  • demonstrate a skill or training session 
  • make a poster
  • field questions arising from your Lightning talk
  • or anything else! 

Doing a Lightning Talk in conjunction with a Showcase Booth will give other attendees the opportunity first to hear about your work, and then explore it in greater depth. These displays will be viewable throughout the day, but there will be a special session dedicated to them as well.

GLAMJAM

GLAMJAMs will be a facilitated opportunity for participant-driven discussion in sessions of approximately 45 minutes, on topics suggested in advance by attendees. Have a GLAM issue you want to talk about? or a niggle? a thing you'd like to see happen? a collaboration you'd like to get off the ground? or a problem you are trying to work out?  This is your chance to shape the programme and have a discussion with others interested in similar questions.

Submit a GLAMJAM topic when you register and we'll collate your suggestions with others along the same lines. Then in advance of the event, we'll put you in touch with your facilitator and your group, and we'll give other attendees a chance to join. Then at GLAMSLAM the afternoon session is a chance for your group to meet up and GLAMJAM.

Topics could be broad or narrow: eg. the difficulties of collaborating with academics; challenges and opportunities of working in the regions; ideas for raising money; working with volunteers; meta data; where to get training in data visualisation ... etc etc etc
