9:20-10:20am Keynote: Land Justice, Aboriginal Country and the Future of all Australians, Prof. Heidi Norman UTS
Head shot of Heidi Norman

In this keynote presentation, Heidi Norman brings together the two pressing issues at the heart of Australian social and political life: action on climate change and justice for Australia’s First Nations people. She argues that Aboriginal land and knowledge is central to the future of all Australians in a climate changing world, that all Australians are the beneficiaries of Aboriginal land repossession. Highlighting implications for the GLAM community, she argues that  a transformation in the relationship of all Australians to Aboriginal country – land, water, plants and animals and people –  could save us from climate catastrophe.

Professor Heidi Norman is a leading researcher in the field of Australian Aboriginal political history. She has made significant contributions to the understanding of Aboriginal social, cultural, economic and political history where she addresses questions of power in relation to Aboriginal citizens, the state and settler society and Aboriginal land justice. Her family descend from the Gamilaroi nation in north western NSW.
