Dr Gregory Poche completed a Bachelor of Business with the NSW Institute of Technology Sydney (now UTS) in 1979. He went on to become one of Australia's most successful business people, responsible for founding freight company Star Track Express in 1972. He was also instrumental in introducing cutting-edge technological change and innovation.
After selling his company in 2003, Poche soon became known as one of the most generous philanthropists in Australia. Donating millions to universities for vital research and he was instrumental in the establishment of Poche Centres of Indigenous Health.
In the 2009 Queen's Birthday Honours he was awarded as Officer in the General Division of the Order of Australia (AO) for his service to the community through philanthropic contributions to medical, aged care and sporting organisations, and to the freight transport industry through the introduction of innovative business practices.
In the same year, Poche received the Chancellor's Award for Excellence at the UTS Alumni Awards Ceremony for his achievements, his ethical approach to business and for his outstanding service to the community through philanthropy.
