U:PASS
U:PASS (UTS Peer Assisted Study Success) is a free, peer-assisted study program designed to help you tackle subjects that many students find academically challenging. It focuses on collaborative learning, reinforcing subject content and developing effective study strategies.
How sessions run
Sessions are led by peer leaders who have previously completed the subject and achieved strong results. They are interactive, informal and discussion-based. You’ll work through key concepts, practise relevant questions and learn alongside other students in a supportive environment. U:PASS complements your lectures and tutorials rather than replacing them.
Academic learning support through HELPS
HELPS (Higher Education Language and Presentation Support) supports you to strengthen your academic and English language skills, focusing on academic writing, speaking, presentations and effective university learning strategies.
How you can get support
- Assignment and writing support: Drop-in help and bookable consultations to get advice on planning and writing assignments, or feedback on drafts.
- Academic skills workshops: Sessions covering effective study strategies, academic writing and style, critical thinking, managing readings, exam preparation, avoiding plagiarism and more.
- English speaking practice: Programs such as Conversations@UTS, the Buddy Program and TalkFest provide informal ways to practise spoken English, build confidence and connect with other students.
- Self-help resources: Online tools and materials to support independent development of academic and language skills.
HELPS supports you to become a more confident, independent learner and can also help you feel more connected as you settle into university life.

These services are designed to help you build practical coping strategies as you progress through your course.
Financial Assistance Service
The Financial Assistance Service helps you manage the costs of university study and living expenses.
How you can get support
- Financial advice and budgeting support: Guidance on managing study-related costs and creating practical budgets.
- Grants and interest-free loans: Assistance with course costs, textbooks, technology and other essential expenses where eligible.

Accessibility support
UTS provides services and spaces designed to support accessibility and inclusion, helping you feel confident and connected from the moment you start.
The Accessibility Service works with students who have disability or access requirements, including health and mental health conditions, and students who identify as neurodivergent.
How it works
An assigned Accessibility Consultant will work with you to understand your needs and prepare an individualised Access Plan. This outlines reasonable adjustments for learning and assessment, such as exam provisions.
Support options may also include:
- Peer mentors to assist with your transition to university
- Assistive technology to boost your study productivity and access
- Services that help ensure accessible learning materials, captioning and inclusive classroom practices, depending on your needs.
You can choose to register with the Accessibility Service and decide when and how you use the available supports. Appointments are available via Zoom or by phone.
Inclusion and community
UTS offers a wide range of opportunities and spaces that help you connect with others, feel part of campus life and build a sense of belonging alongside your studies.
Opportunities include:
- Clubs and societies: Through ActivateUTS, you can join more than 180 clubs and societies across sports, culture, creativity and professional interests.
- Campus life and events: Regular activities and programs that encourage connection, wellbeing and engagement across campus.
- Student-led communities: Opportunities to connect through student groups, volunteering and leadership roles that reflect diverse backgrounds and interests.
University is more than classes and assessments. These services are part of your student experience from the moment you start, supporting your learning, wellbeing and future goals. Knowing what’s available means you can focus on making the most of your time at UTS, with support behind you every step of the way.
