• Can I study a postgraduate business degree if I work full-time?

  Yes, many of our postgraduate students work full-time, with the majority of classes held in the evenings or online. • When do I choose my major in a Bachelor of Business and can I choose more than one?

  In the first year of a Bachelor of Business degree you’ll study core subjects, giving you a broad foundation in business. In your second year, you choose your major, with the option of adding a second major, sub-majors or elective options.

• What learning opportunities does the Business School offer outside the classroom?

  Many Business courses include internships or work-integrated learning (WIL) subjects to ensure students build practical skills demanded by industry.

  Students can also take part in the UTS Case Team to develop consulting skills or the Microsoft Excel Collegiate Challenge to build capability in spreadsheets. Additionally, the Business School runs a Leadership Insights interview series, where leaders such as CEOs and CFOs visit campus, providing career inspiration for current students. 

• What is an MBA?

  A Master of Business Administration (MBA) gives you the support, guidance and capabilities to build a strong foundation of business skills or to accelerate your existing business career. Your core subjects will include accounting, finance and leading people, and you’ll also choose a Major to focus on a particular interest, such as Marketing, Management or Business Analytics.

• What is the difference between Finance and Accounting?

  While Finance and Accounting are both offered within the UTS Business School, they offer different subjects and career outcomes.

  Finance teaches decision making about money, investing, markets, risks and growing wealth.

  Accounting teaches recording and reporting money, financial statements, compliance, tax and auditing. 

• How can I meet people and connect with other Business students at UTS?

  During Orientation Week, you can attend a faculty welcome, campus tours and join UTS clubs and societies. 

  Business School clubs and societies include the Business Society, Digital Marketing Society, Finance Society, MBA Nexus and Women in Business.

• Can I defer my study?

  Whether you can defer depends on several factors. Some courses do not allow you to defer, and you cannot defer if you commence your course in the Spring or Summer session.

• I have a previous qualification in a different field – will this support my application?

  If you have studied a previous qualification, it can be considered for admissions purposes. Visit admissions and eligibility for more information.

  You may also be eligible for credit towards your new course through recognition of prior learning (RPL).

• Can I transfer to UTS from a different university?

  Yes, although you will need to apply. Application information is available for domestic applicants and international applicants.

  If you transfer to UTS, you may be able to receive credit towards your new course based on your previous study through recognition of prior learning (RPL).

• What happens if I don’t get the selection rank?

  Your ATAR isn’t the only determining factor to entry into UTS. There are additional adjustments given to students who complete relevant HSC subjects, which can add up to five additional bonus points.

  You can also complete the Engineering and IT Portfolio (Year 12) questionnaire to demonstrate your strong motivation to study engineering and IT. If you fall short of the Selection Rank by 1–3 points, we will still consider your application.

• Can I study a UTS subject if I’m a student at another university?

  Yes, although you will need to apply. If you’re studying at a different university, cross-institutional study allows you to enrol in UTS subjects and receive credit for them towards your course.

• Do I meet the eligibility requirements?

  Our programs come in different formats to suit your needs. If you’re interested in a master’s degree, you typically need a bachelor degree and at least 2 years of relevant work experience.

  If you don’t meet these requirements, you might be eligible for our Graduate Diploma or Graduate Certificate programs. Check the admission requirements on the course page.

• Can I register for a tour of the UTS campus?

  Yes, UTS runs free campus tours throughout the year.

• Do I need a bachelor degree to do a master’s degree?

  Postgraduate study typically requires a bachelor degree, but if you have approximately 8 years of professional experience, you may qualify for a Graduate Certificate. This certificate covers core subjects and serves as a pathway to a master’s degree.
