Our UniReady Enabling Program supports you on your journey to a degree at UTS
The UniReady Enabling Program is a free academic program specifically developed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, and/or students who have experienced financial disadvantage* – journeying together towards university study.
The program is designed to get you ready for undergraduate study at UTS. Building on your existing strengths and successes, UniReady will help you to develop your knowledge of the university environment, its academic expectations as well as developing your academic literacy and research skills.
Students who successfully complete the UniReady program will be offered a place to study in an undergraduate degree at UTS.
Is the program for me?
UniReady may be for you for you if you:
- have completed year 12 and received an ATAR of between 55–69 at high school
- have completed year 12, did not receive an ATAR, but performed well in some of your subjects
- are mature aged with a wealth of life and work experience and you're looking for new opportunities
- have completed TAFE or vocational qualifications and are looking for further study opportunities
- are 17 years of age or above.

Information about the UniReady Enabling Program

The UniReady Enabling Program is designed to equip you with the essential capabilities required for successful participation in higher education. The curriculum covers core academic, digital, and disciplinary skills, supporting you to transition effectively into undergraduate study and engage with the expectations of university-level learning.
- Duration: 12 weeks of full-time study (9 weeks of teaching)
- Delivery dates: From 7 April – 26 June 2026
- Study mode: Online and face-to-face learning
- Location: On campus at UTS, Sydney
UniReady involves 3 hours of face-to-face or online teaching per week, in combination with online self-directed learning. The course is full-time, so expect to commit to a minimum of 20-30 hours of independent study per week.

To apply, you must be:
- an Australian or New Zealand citizen, a permanent resident of Australia, or a permanent visa holder
- be turning 17 years of age or more in the year you commence the program.
AND one of the following:
- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander^.
- Have experienced financial disadvantage*, as evidenced by one of the below criteria:
- You live in a low-socioeconomic area based on IRSAD indexes of SEIFA criteria**.
- You received, for a period of at least 3 months during Year 11 and/or Year 12 or equivalent, a Centrelink income and asset-tested entitlement.
- Your parent/s or guardian/s received Family Tax Benefit Part A while you were in Year 11 and/or Year 12 or equivalent.
You also need to meet our academic eligibility requirements (see more information below).

We want to ensure that you are set up for success in the program.
If you are a school leaver who attained a Year 12 HSC degree (in the previous 18 months), but did not qualify for entry into UTS via existing pathways, you must meet one of the following criteria:
- A near miss ATAR student who has received an ATAR between 55–69.
- A student who has completed their HSC and has performed well (minimum band 4) in 2 or 3 subjects (does not require an ATAR).
If you are a non-school leaver who aspires to complete a university degree, you must provide at least one of the following for consideration (application assessed case-by-case):
- Secondary school results (Year 11 or 12), or an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR), Tertiary Entrance Rank (TER), University Admissions Index (UAI) or equivalent.
- Evidence of studies undertaken since leaving school e.g., Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) Certificate IV or above at TAFE, a private or community college, or prior university studies (minimum 2 units).
- Evidence of work experience, which must be at least 1 year full-time paid employment

As part of your application, you will be asked to provide supporting documentation to confirm your eligibility.
For Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants
- To access Jumbunna services, you will need to provide confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent. Documentation must include a common seal and must be in the applicant's name OR the Jumbunna Statutory Declaration and two references from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community members who are not directly related to you who can confirm you are of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent. Please note we do not accept references from school or other statutory declarations.
- You’ll also need to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). A USI is your individual education number for life. You can apply for or find your USI here: https://www.usi.gov.au/
For applicants who have experienced financial disadvantage^^
You will need to provide one of the following:
- Your address, if you live in a low-socioeconomic area based on IRSAD indexes of SEIFA criteria**
- Centrelink income statement evidencing receipt of income and asset-tested entitlement. The documentation must be in your name and be for the period of at least 3 months during Year 11 and/or Year 12 or equivalent.
- A Centrelink income statement or Centrelink family assistance letter issued to your parent/s or guardian/s demonstrating their receipt of Family Tax Benefit Part A.
You’ll also need to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). A USI is your individual education number for life. You can apply for or find your USI here: https://www.usi.gov.au/
**Socio-Economic Indexes for Areas (SEIFA) ranks areas in Australia according to relative socio-economic advantage and disadvantage based on the Index of Education and Occupation and Index of Relative Socio-Economic Advantage and Disadvantage. To find out whether your address is in an area that meets the socio-economic eligibility criteria for UniReady, follow the steps outlined here.
Academic documents
All applicants will need to provide evidence of academic eligibility, such as your testamur or official results/completion certificate. Please see academic requirements above for further information on accepted education and/or employment criteria.
For evidence of work experience, please submit your CV.
Parental/Guardian permission form
We require prospective UniReady Enabling Program students to provide a completed Parent or Guardian Consent Form where the student’s age is under 18 years at the date of enrolment in the Program. Please complete and return the form to UniReady@uts.edu.au.
^^ Important information
The Centrelink income statement or family assistance letter must be dated within the period of your Year 11 and/or Year 12 or equivalent and demonstrate the actual payment rate. It cannot be considered if it shows $0 payment rate or a future payment date (i.e. the payment date is later than the issue date of the document). Your parent/s or guardian/s can view and download their Centrelink income statement by logging in to their Centrelink online account, or myGov if they have set up an account. To obtain a Centrelink family assistance letter your parent/s or guardian/s must call or visit a Centrelink office; you will need to allow at least a week for Centrelink to issue the letter. Note: If your surname or residential address is different from your parent/guardian's, upload a copy of your birth certificate or other document(s) that verify your relationship.

You will study 4 units within the UniReady Enabling Program: 3 core units and one elective unit.
Core units:
- Academic Foundations and University Skills (90016)
- Data and Evidence (90017)
- Writing for Academic Purposes (90018)
Elective units:
- Introduction to Disciplines (90015)
Upon completion of UniReady, graduates will be able to:
- Identify and engage with principles of academic integrity and ethical use of technology to develop as a self-aware and responsible learner in academic contexts.
- Communicate ideas and understanding of academic content in written and oral forms, applying strategies for both independent and collaborative learning.
- Use appropriate terminology when engaging with and referring to Indigenous Australians in both oral and written contexts.
- Identify personal interests and apply strategies to engage and succeed in a university teaching and learning environment.

The UniReady Enabling Program is free, supported by the Australian Government’s ‘FEE-FREE Uni Ready Courses’ initiative. All students in the UniReady Enabling Program will enrol in a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP), which are university places subsidised by the Australian Government. Please read the Commonwealth Supported Place booklet for more information.
You won’t need to make any student contributions or access HECS-HELP, or pay the Student Service and Amenities Fee (SSAF) for UniReady. There may, however, be non-tuition fees and other expenses associated with studying.

Noting that UniReady Enabling Program Graduates can:
* enrol in C10476 Bachelor of Computing Science (standard mode) and transfer with full credit to C09119 Bachelor of Computing Science (Honours) in year 2;
** enrol in C10066 Bachelor of Engineering Science and transfer with full credit to Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in year 2.
Additional eligibility information
Offers to UTS Law degrees via UniReady are competitive, and places are limited. Entry to competitive degrees will be determined based on results in UniReady and a faculty interview.
Offers to Nursing and Midwifery degrees are contingent on meeting course English language requirements.
Applications to Teaching courses must include a personal statement, equivalent to the UAC Teaching Questionnaire.

- 16 April 2026 – Census date and last day to enrol.
- 26 June 2026 – UniReady classes end.
