What you’ll study

This program covers essential nursing subjects, including Anatomy, Pharmacology, and Patient Care, alongside clinical placements for practical experience. You’ll develop critical thinking, communication, and advocacy skills to provide high-quality care.

Graduates become empathetic, knowledgeable nurses, equipped to address challenges in various healthcare environments and make a positive impact on patient wellbeing.

The outline below shows an example program for the Bachelor of Nursing based on a full-time study load. Please note that your exact program may differ based on your unique circumstances, such as recognition of prior learning, study load (full time vs part time) and combined degrees.

  1. First year

    You'll commence your degree by completing a range of core theoretical and clinical nursing and science subjects, developing your foundational understanding of healthcare and nursing fundamentals. To consolidate your learning at the end of the year, you'll get hands-on experience, engaging in a supervised placement in a clinical setting.  
  2. Second year

    You'll enhance your understanding of crucial areas like pharmacology, mental health and care for the older person. Your second year will see you undertake eight weeks of clinical placement across four subjects. 
  3. Third year

    In the final year of your degree, you’ll hone your skills in preparation for graduation through both a four-week and a six-week clinical placement. You'll also undertake any remaining core units as you prepare to transition to a new graduate nurse and complete your choice of elective into a nursing specialty.  
  4. Honours

    Eligible students can apply for the Bachelor of Nursing (Honours). Completion of this program requires an additional year of full-time study.

Putting this into practice, you'll get the chance to consolidate your knowledge and skills in real clinical settings, building the confidence and connections you need to launch and grow your future career.

The Bachelor of Nursing program at UTS is accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) and approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). This ensures that our program meets the highest standards of nursing education and prepares students to become Registered Nurses (RNs) in Australia.
