What you’ll study
You’ll need to complete 192 credit points to graduate with the Bachelor of Education Futures Master of Teaching in Secondary Education.
In the Bachelor of Education Futures component, you’ll undertake 60 credit points of core discipline subjects and 36 credit points from a specialisation in English, Creative Arts or Primary Curriculum Integration. Discipline subjects focus on areas such as sustainability, history, technology, Indigenous knowledges, and health promotion.
In the Master of Teaching in Primary Education, you’ll study 24 credit points of core Primary Education units, building knowledge in critical areas such as inclusive education, Indigenous knowledges, literacy, numeracy, digital supported learning and classroom management. This is supplemented by 48 credit points of Primary Key Learning Area subjects in maths, science and technology, English/literacy, PDHPE, creative arts and HSIE.
Theory and professional practice are seamlessly integrated throughout the degree. You’ll undertake 80 days (24 credit points) of structured teaching placements in at least two primary schools within our extensive network of partner schools. This extensive professional experience ensures you’ll graduate with confidence, and with strong professional networks to ensure you’ll succeed immediately upon entry into the profession.
You'll need to achieve a credit average after four sessions of full-time study (or part-time equivalent), typically at the end of your second year, to progress into the final years of the program. You’ll also need to complete the NSW Government’s LANTITE Literacy and Numeracy test before progressing to the third Professional Experience supervised teaching placement in Year 3.

Industry accreditation
This course is currently accredited by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) as a recognised primary school teaching qualification. UTS is seeking additional NESA approval for proposed organisational and curriculum variations, to be implemented in Autumn 2027. To gain employment as a teacher in NSW schools, graduates must meet the requirements of the NESA, including language proficiency.
Your future career
Career options include primary teaching (kindergarten to year 6) in a public or private school in Australia or internationally (subject to meeting relevant employer requirements). You’ll have a specialisation in Creative Arts, English or Primary Curriculum Integration. Other roles may be in fields such as health education, environmental education, museum education, youth work, student learning support in schools, curriculum planning and research, and education in the creative and performing arts.
