What you’ll study

You'll complete core subjects addressing the juxtaposition of sound and the moving image, ethical creative practice, and entrepreneurship. In your Media Arts and Production stream you’ll begin exploring and defining your creative vision as a screen practitioner and storyteller, while gaining practical competencies in creating a range of screen productions from drama to documentary. You’ll also broaden and enhance your knowledge and experience by choosing from our range of future-focused Creative Production and Communication electives.

Meanwhile, you'll engage with your Law studies, covering ethics, evidence, contracts, civil practice, international law and more.

The honours component in law comprises two research subjects enabling you to develop advanced research, critical analysis and communication skills that can be used in further higher degree research such as Master of laws or PhD.

Skills you'll develop

In your Creative Production degree, you’ll get the chance to build skills and a professional creative portfolio. This program will shape you into an experienced screen media professional, giving you the tools to effectively carry out every stage of the production journey. The Law program will give you the opportunity to acquire knowledge of fundamental legal theory and practice and meet the academic requirements for admission to practise law in NSW. 

Industry accreditation

This course satisfies the academic requirements for admission to the Supreme Court of NSW as a lawyer. Once completed, you’ll also need to complete a practical legal training program, such as the Graduate Certificate in Professional Legal Practice (available at UTS) to be eligible for admission as a lawyer.

A joint offering by UTS Law and UTS Communication, the Bachelor of Creative Production in Media Arts Bachelor of Laws (Honours) is designed for those seeking to acquire legal knowledge and skills with added film, video, sound production and new media capabilities, preparing you for a dynamic career at the intersection of law and creative media.

Please note that this is an exit-only course. There is no direct admission to it. Current UTS students who meet the criteria for honours may be able to submit an Internal Course Transfer (Graduating) application to exit with this course. Check with the UTS Student Centre.

The honours component in law comprises two research subjects enabling you to develop advanced research, critical analysis and communication skills that can be used in further higher degree research such as Master of Laws or PhD.

You will gain hands-on experience in media production, and an understanding of the roles within a production crew by producing and exhibiting your own media projects. This, combined with subjects in your law course will open up your career prospects across media, communications and legal arenas.

Graduates of this course are able move into a range of roles within film, media, sound production, and new media platforms or use their specialised skillset to work as a lawyer in the media and communications industry.
Students have the unique opportunity to combine studies in film, video, sound and new media with studies in law, gaining a first-hand perspective of the production process, the creation of intellectual property in media production and the functions of various crew roles, including directors and producers through producing and exhibiting their own short film, video, sound production or new media programs.

Students have the opportunity to engage in deeper study of the law by studying 76090 Research Methodology and undertaking 76040 Research Thesis. This course can be a pathway to higher degree research programs.

2026 Indicative tuition fees for government-supported domestic students

All offers for domestic undergraduate students are for Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP).This means the Australian Government contributes to your education costs, and you pay the remaining tuition fees, known as the student contribution. If eligible, you can defer payment through HECS-HELP, or you can choose to pay your fees upfront each session.
