• Course description

  For those who have a passion for visual arts, drawing and storytelling, the Bachelor of Creative Production in Animation combined with a Bachelor of Creative Intelligence and Innovation at UTS is the fastest route to creating animated work supported by powerful ideas that will speak to a global audience.

  Located in the heart of the Sydney’s creative industries precinct, UTS is a place where the technology economy meets a vibrant arts and cultural scene. Collaborating on a range of productions, UTS Animation students learn how to develop their ideas through multiple stages, whilst focusing on character, development, narrative structure and performance. In our studio-based classes you will work with your peers in a professional and collaborative atmosphere as you learn the 2D, 3D and hybrid animation skills that are necessary to bring your ideas to life. As a student you will have the opportunity to work with industry partners, such as ABC Podcasts, VIVID, and the Australia Piano Quartet. UTS Animation also has long-standing relationships with Sydney's local studios such as Flying Bark Productions, Mighty Nice, Cheeky Little Media and Dave Enterprises.

  What sets this course apart is its transdisciplinary approach, integrating diverse perspectives and real-world projects to prepare you for complex industry challenges. From an Animation perspective it is its emphasis on observation and life drawing as sources of inspiration, fostering creativity in character and story development as you set out to master 2D, 3D, and hybrid techniques. Its distinctiveness lies in the integration of professional animation skills with language skills and cultural insights, alongside the chance to study abroad.

  UTS student productions have screened at prestigious festivals in Australia and overseas. Graduates from UTS Animation become image-makers, critical thinkers and storytellers in equal measure, creating original content for film, TV, advertising and other screen-based media that engages audiences around the globe. This course is accredited by CILECT, the international association of the world’s major film and television schools.

  Graduates from the Bachelor of Animation Production are image-makers, critical thinkers and storytellers in equal measure and we help equip them to become leaders in this industry. Students will learn to develop, pitch and defend ideas, and ultimately create original content for film, TV, advertising and other screen-based media that will engage global audiences.

Students have the opportunity to work with live projects and active partners, such as ABC Podcasts, VIVID, the Australia Piano Quartet, and other collaborations with international universities at the Annecy MIFA campus etc. UTS also has long-standing relationships with Sydney's local animation studios such as Flying Bark Productions, Mighty Nice, Cheeky Little Media, Dave Enterprises, and Animal Logic which offer students multiple opportunities to engage in practice while studying.

These creative intelligence competencies enable graduates to navigate across a rapidly accelerating world of change.

  Your Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) is a score between 0.00 and 99.95. It shows you how you rank compared to all the students in your year group in New South Wales. A selection rank combines your ATAR with any other adjustment points that make up your overall university entrance score. Your selection rank may differ from university to university, depending on the adjustment points granted to you at each institution.

• Transdisciplinary Electives at UTS

  Employers tell us the skills our graduates acquire from undertaking a Transdisciplinary Elective sets them apart from the crowd. That’s why we have embedded this program into every undergraduate degree.

  All you need to do is choose the Elective that inspires you the most.

  Transdisciplinary Electives integrate knowledge from multiple disciplines, allowing you to approach complex problems from a range of perspectives.

  By combining methods and insights from various disciplines, transdisciplinary learning often leads to breakthrough ideas and creative innovations that may not be possible within the confines of a single discipline.

  If you find yourself rapt by the world of innovation – you can pair your core degree with a Diploma in Innovation, graduating with two qualifications in the same timeframe. 

  In both instances, you’ll work on a real-world challenge presented by an industry partner organisation – partners who often create career pathways for our graduates.

• Course duration

  The course is offered on a four-year, full-time basis.

• Admission requirements

  Applicants must have completed an Australian Year 12 qualification, Australian Qualifications Framework Diploma, or equivalent Australian or overseas qualification at the required level.

  Eligibility for admission does not guarantee offer of a place.

• Domestic course fees

  2026 Indicative tuition fees for government-supported domestic students

  All offers for domestic undergraduate students are for Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP).This means the Australian Government contributes to your education costs, and you pay the remaining tuition fees, known as the student contribution. If eligible, you can defer payment through HECS-HELP, or you can choose to pay your fees upfront each session.
