The 2022 U@Uni Summer School was postponed due to COVID-19. We will now be running U@Uni Winter School in July 2022.

During the winter holidays during Year 11, join us for a ‘hands-on’ one week experience across a range of subject areas during the July school holidays!

You will work alongside UTS academics, staff and student mentors to complete faculty-based projects and understand what university is really like. Throughout the week, you will also learn about university courses and scholarships to assist with your post-secondary school decisions.

These videos sum up what Winter School looks like in different faculties.

Business Students will work as part of a team to develop business skills to succeed in the fast-changing world of work. In our program, students will become a lawyer for a day, work with robots, create new business ideas, visit a business in action, come up with solutions to pressing ethical problems for business, and learn about how and why businesses are changing from experts in management, finance, accounting, law, and economics.
Design In this dynamic programme, students will be introduced to a range of design disciplines offered at UTS DAB from Animation, Visual communication, Photography and Fashion and Textiles, through to Product Design, Architecture and Interior Architecture. Students will undertake practical workshops in each field using a range of techniques and be introduced to various equipment and technology associated with each field. Students will choose an elective to specialise in and will be guided through the process of creating a resolved design outcome to be displayed in an exhibition at the end of the summer school.
Education

Over Winter School, students will engage in exciting and hands-on learning related to different techniques, tools and materials for teaching. Students will undertake practical workshops that help them to think deeply about the connections between systems of learning and behaviour, they will develop lesson plans and they will find out more about becoming an educator! Often, the actions that teachers and educators take in their daily schedule are not obvious, they are invisible. But it is the cumulative value of those actions that provide an opportunity to change someone’s life, and that’s no small thing!

Engineering & IT: Design and Build

In the Engineering Design and Build programme, student will use modern technology and design techniques to tackle real-world problems and prototype practical solutions. Students will explore human-centred design and learn technical skills associated with engineering in the physical world. They will experience first hand university life as an engineering student, taking part in activities in areas such as bio-mechatronics, mechanical & electrical engineering, and civil and environmental engineering.

Engineering & IT: Code and Create

In the Engineering Code and Create Winter School, students will combine the world of data, design, and programming to create interactive solutions to modern-age problems. Students will explore programming languages and their uses with relevance to existing technologies. Over an exciting week they will explore life as an engineering student, taking part in activities in areas such as games development, web and app development and artificial intelligence in IT.

Health Students have the opportunity to be immersed in the fantastic world of healthcare! Our state-of-the-art labs mimic real hospital wards, equipped with hospital equipment and lifelike manikins allowing students to practice real-world nursing and midwifery skills; including CPR, wound dressings, and childbirth. In the health faculty we are very passionate about our own personal health and wellbeing, so time is also spent coming up with skills and strategies that keep us happiest and healthiest.
Media How can we connect and communicate with each other by creating powerful stories that we can relate to? The media and communications school will give you an insight into courses like  journalism, media arts, sound, writing & social media strategies, so you can explore creative ways to tell stories and engage with audiences while also getting some great technical skills in camera, editing, directing, sound mixing, design and social media.
Science Students will be able to explore interests in a variety of scientific fields, including environmental science, biology, physiology, chemistry and forensic science. Participants will be exposed to hands on activities and state of the art facilities in which they will develop skills in all fields both individually and in groups. Over an intensive week they will envision and plan an experiment then perform and present their results. Working alongside experts, they will develop a greater understanding of each field and how to represent and communicate their findings, skills that are necessary in navigating the field of science
