1.1 General

1.1.1 These Student Conduct Rules (Conduct Rules) are made under section 29 of the University of Technology Sydney Act 1989 (NSW) (Act) and clause 44 of the University of Technology Sydney By-law 2005 (NSW) (By-law).

1.1.2 The definitions in Schedule 1 apply to these Conduct Rules, unless a specific Rule explicitly states otherwise.

1.2 Application and scope of these Conduct Rules

Application to students of the University

1.2.1 These Conduct Rules apply to students of the University while they are:

  1. on University campus, whether for study, housing or other purposes;
  2. accessing University facilities or services; and/or
  3. otherwise participating in any University activity, including, but not limited to:
    1. undertaking any offshore course or participating in a period of offshore study as part of an international studies program or overseas exchange program, or participating in other offshore activities related to their studies at the University; or
    2. participating in clinical practice, fieldwork, internships, industry or other practical experience as part of their studies at the University.

1.2.2 In some circumstances, some of these Conduct Rules also apply to the conduct of a person who is on a leave of absence, or is a former student of the University.

Application to students undertaking a course conducted in conjunction with another institution

1.2.3 The Vice-Chancellor's nominee may exclude the application of some or all of these Conduct Rules to students who are enrolled in a University course which is conducted and/or delivered in conjunction with another institution or delivery partner of an appropriate standing, whether in Australia or offshore.

1.2.4 Students enrolled in a University course which is conducted in conjunction with another institution must comply with all requirements including, without limitation, the rules, guidelines and codes of conduct of the other institution or delivery partner for the duration of their studies at the other institution. Students who transfer to the University to continue their study will then be subject to these Conduct Rules from the time of transfer.

1.3 Delegation

1.3.1 The Vice-Chancellor or the Vice-Chancellor's nominee may delegate any of their powers or functions under these Conduct Rules to any position or organisational unit within the University. The delegation:

  1. may be for the purpose of specific Conduct Rules, groups of Conduct Rules, or these Conduct Rules generally;
  2. must be in writing;
  3. should be recorded in a register maintained by the University Secretary; and
  4. can be changed by the Vice-Chancellor or the Vice-Chancellor's nominee at any time.
