UTS and Wollongong CEO in research partnership
A research partnership between UTS School of Education and the Catholic Education Office, Diocese of Wollongong has been established to investigate the implementation of the new English K-10 Syllabus in Stages 3 and 4 through a focus on the General Capability of ‘Critical and Creative Thinking’ as manifested in student writing.
The UTS research team led by Dr Don Carter and Dr Joanne Yoo will facilitate a process of data collection that will include teacher surveys, interviews and lesson observations. Teachers from St Justin’s Catholic Primary School, Oran Park, St Clare’s Catholic Primary School, Narellan Vale, St Benedict’s Catholic College, Oran Park and Magdalene Catholic High School, Narellan will be participating in the research.
An important component of the research is the development of teacher writing skills and knowledge and to this end, award winning author of young adult fiction John Larkin, has begun to work with teacher participants with the first workshop being held in December last year. This initial workshop focused on research design principles including generating and refining research ideas, identifying specific features of local contexts and establishing research priorities.
The research will continue throughout 2016 with the research findings due in early 2017.
