Travel overseas, experience new cultures, learn a different language and increase your employability after you graduate.
The Bachelor of Arts in International Studies can be combined with 29 course offerings across UTS. As part of the degree, you'll spend a whole year studying abroad in one of 14 countries and learning one of 6 languages (French, Italian, German, Spanish, Chinese or Japanese).
UTS also supports International Studies students during their In-Country Study (ICS) by:
- Covering the tuition costs at the host university
- Booking and paying for return flights from Sydney
- Covering the costs of visa fees and international insurance
- Organising at least one in-country visit from a UTS academic
- Providing continued support and advice from a UTS supervisor and travel liaison

￼This course is designed to be taken concurrently with an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program at UTS.
As part of the Diploma, you'll study one of six majors - Japanese, Chinese, French, Italian, German or Spanish. As well as learning a language, you'll develop the intercultural skills and experience required to thrive in a globally focused workplace. International travel isn’t part of the Diploma but you have the option of embarking on an International Intensive Elective, where you can put all of your language and cultural skills into practice.

￼In this stand-alone course, you’ll learn about globalisation and your place in the world by studying politics, economics and culture in combination with a professional major (Business, Management, Communication, Health or Legal Studies). There are plenty of opportunities to further internationalise your degree, with options including an International Internship Elective, a session-long global exchange placement or a language sub-major.
UTS has one of the largest international exchange programs in Australia with over 240 exchange programs in over 40 countries. Global exchange allows you to study overseas for one or two teaching sessions at a UTS partner university. Even better, whilst studying overseas, you remain enrolled at UTS and receive credit towards your degree.
Each university session break, in collaboration with its international partners, the BUILD team offers short-term overseas programs that will broaden your horizons, including:

￼This is an immersive experience where journalism students travel abroad and experience what it means to be an international reporter. The program is credited towards their course and travel grants are available. Destinations include India, Philippines, Tunisia and Jordan with more trips soon to be announced.

Most UTS professional placements for Education students are local. However, you can also apply to an IPE placement in one of a number of overseas settings. The School selects one country for IPE placements each year. Previously, students have studied in countries such as Samoa, and Bhutan.
