What can I study?

The Transdisciplinary School (TD) offers Master’s by Research and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees. Our popular research degrees are open to domestic and international students.

Finding a supervisor whose research interests and approach reflect your own is key to achieving a successful postgraduate research experience.

Considerations

When applying for an HDR Degree in TDS, we look for projects that address complex real-world challenges, have the potential to generate new knowledge, and would benefit from a transdisciplinary approach.

 Strong proposals demonstrate a clear research question, potential for impact beyond academia, engagement with relevant stakeholders, and a feasible plan that can be completed within the timeframe of the degree.

 

In summary we look for research project proposals that:

  • Addresses a complex real-world challenge or opportunity.
  • Has the potential to generate new knowledge and make an original contribution. 
  • Benefits from a transdisciplinary approach, drawing on multiple forms of expertise and perspectives.
  • Engages with industry, government, communities, or other stakeholders where appropriate.
  • Demonstrates a clear pathway to real-world impact.
  • Is feasible within the timeframe and scope of a Master's by Research or PhD. 
  • Aligns with the expertise and research strengths of prospective supervisors and TD School research themes and lenses.
