Outcomes Focused Program Evaluation Course
Program evaluation is a valuable tool for strengthening the quality of programs and improving outcomes. Evaluation provides an opportunity for critical, strategic thinking through collecting and analysing information about a program's activities, characteristics and outcomes. It allows you to assess the effectiveness of your program and improve future services.
This evaluation course is designed to provide you with the applied knowledge and skills required to develop evaluation frameworks for a variety of purposes within your workplace. This course is highly participative and interactive allowing you to apply learning through two programs. Using the Program Logic model, you will apply evaluative practice and thinking, and learn how to analyse the assumptions and values underpinning the expectations of the program outcomes.
You will also determine the appropriate evaluative approach for the purpose of tracking progress, making judgments and decisions, building understanding, improving effectiveness and using evidence in program design and reporting. In this evaluations course you will also draw on your own work case studies connected to organisational strategic goals to build your own learning and capacity.

Who is the course for?
This evaluations course is suitable for managers and technical officers charged with implementing and evaluating programs.
This evaluation course will be delivered as an interactive workshop consisting of an instructor-led lecture, group and individual activities. This training approach allows participants to work through concepts introduced by the trainer in an application-focused teaching environment. Participants will challenge their understanding of the concepts and consider their application once back in their individual workplace.

About the presenters
Dr. George Argyrous is the Research and Education Manager at the UTS Institute for Public Policy and Governance (IPPG).
George was formerly ANZSOG Senior Lecturer in Evident-Based Decision Making and director of the Evidence and Evaluation Hub. He is an expert in the application of statistics and research methods to social, economic and evaluation research. George has worked with many public and private organisations, providing research and evaluation services, as well as building evaluation capability. He worked with central agencies including the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet and the Commonwealth Department of Finance to develop whole-of-government frameworks to improve the use of evaluation, as well as writing national evaluation frameworks in major policy areas such as disaster recovery and countering violent extremism.
Duncan Rintoul is an Associate of IPPG and Director of Rooftop Social, a research and evaluation firm that specialises in facilitation and capacity building. Duncan has close to 20 years’ consulting experience across a broad range of policy areas, including education, justice, human services, health and urban affairs. He works in a diverse mix of government agencies and NGOs and teaches in executive education programs for the Australian Evaluation Society (AES) and the Australian Market and Social Research Society (AMRS). Between 2015-19, Duncan initiated and lead a major evaluation capacity-building projects in the NSW Department of Education.
