Multiple Awards for members at the conference held in Ottawa, Canada 13 to 18 July 2025

Recognition at prestigious conference on antennas, electromagnetics and radio science

The continued impact and success of GBDTC has once again been highlighted through award of numerous honours at the latest International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation and North American Radio Science Meeting (IEEE AP-S/URSI 2025).

Recently, a delegation of GBDTC members have attended the 2025 IEE International AP-S/URSI conference in Ottawa, Canada. The AP-S/URSI conference is the one of most prestigious conferences in the field of antennas, propagation, electromagnetic engineering and radio science.

The symposium was co-sponsored by the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (IEE AP-S), the Canadian National Committee (CNC) and the US National Committee (USNC) of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI) and featured a range of keynote speeches, technical sessions and interactive workshops as well as student paper sessions and the IEEE AP-S Recognition Awards.

The awards received by GBDTC members are as follows:

The 2025 Mojgan Daneshmand Grant was awarded to Yi He (Supervisor: Y Jay Guo). The Mojgan Daneshmand Grant is named to honour Prof. Mojgan Daneshmand and was created with the purpose of increasing women’s visibility at this annual event. Yi received one of 12 grants of $1,500 with the Symposium registration fee and banquet ticket also covered by the IEEE AP-S.

Student paper competition

Three GBDTC students achieved the honour of being placed as finalists for the symposium student paper competition. These students were Cao Hong Phuc Nguyen, Fanchao Zeng and Yi He. This year’s competition received a total of 131 submissions, each rigorously evaluated through a double-blind review process by three independent reviewers. From these submissions, 12 finalists and 33 honourable mentions were selected.

From the list of finalists, all our GBTC finalists received awards, which is a spectacular achievement! Third place: Cao Hong Phuc Nguyen (Advisor: Prof J Andrew Zhang and Prof Xiaojing Huang) fourth place: Yi He (Advisor: Dist Prof Y Jay Guo) and fifth place: Fanchao Zeng (Advisors: A/Prof Can Ding and Dist Prof Y Jay Guo)

In addition to third place in the student paper competition, Cao Hong Phuc Nguyen also received the IEEE Student Travel Grant with prize money of $USD1,500. The money is provided to cover the costs associated with attending the conference.

IEE AP-S Society recognition

IEEE AP-S Society recognition was also received by GBDTC members listed below. Outstanding associate editor awardees are selected across a range of criteria, including the volume of manuscripts handled, timeliness metrics and the quality of feedback received.

  • IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation (TAP) – Outstanding Associate Editors: A/Prof Peiyuan Qin
  • IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters (AWPL) – Outstanding Associate Editors: A/Prof Can Ding
  • IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters (AWPL) – Outstanding Guest Editors: Dr Shu-Lin (Stanley) Chen
