What we built

• An interactive quiz, launched through four entry points based on the user's situation, "I'm being forced to marry," "I'm worried about a friend or family member," "I'm unsure about getting help" and "I'm a frontline worker", helping users find relevant information and support without needing to disclose more than they're ready to.
• A secure message room for confidential, password-protected communication with legal advisors, built with secure authentication (JWT and OAuth2) to protect user confidentiality.
• Safety features throughout, including a quick exit function and a "cover your tracks" browsing history tool, so users can leave the site instantly and safely if needed.
• Translation into multiple languages, making the service accessible to Australia's diverse communities.
• A frontline worker guide, an educational resource supporting professionals who work with people at risk.
• The platform runs on a cloud-native, non-profit-optimised architecture, built to minimise ongoing infrastructure costs for Anti-Slavery Australia while maintaining the security and reliability the service demands.

Designed around real user needs

Rapido's UX team led a three-month, research-driven design process, run in parallel with the six-month software build.

UX Research

• 4 online workshops across 3 user groups: young people with lived experience, frontline workers and subject matter experts.
• Design thinking exercises, including a user needs matrix, individual brainstorming, affinity mapping and brain writing, used to generate, evaluate and extend ideas together.
• Core features, including the situational quiz, live chat and improved translations, emerged directly from this research.

User testing

• 7 individual testing sessions across 2 user groups.
• An interactive wireframe prototype, validated through structured interview questions.
• Iteration from low-fidelity through to high-fidelity design, incorporating both testing feedback and Anti-Slavery Australia's preferences.

Key UX findings that shaped the final product

• Illustrations were used instead of photography, since real imagery risked being triggering for people at risk of or experiencing forced marriage.
• Young people frequently didn't recognise "forced marriage" as a term for their own situation, and needed clearer, plainer guidance.
• Reading survivor stories written in first person helped young people feel less alone.
