UTS LEARNING JOURNEYS: Privacy Notice 

Purpose 

The LEARNING JOURNEYS application is provided by the Connected Intelligence Centre (CIC) for the University of Technology Sydney (referred to as “us”, “we”, “our”) for students and staff (referred to as “you”). The purpose of this platform is to support you in setting goals for self-directed learning and reflection, and associated research for the CIC.  

Collecting your information 

After you consent to use LEARNING JOURNEYS, the following information held by us will be uploaded into LEARNING JOURNEYS on your behalf: 

  • your name and UTS email address 

  • course and subject identifier (for students).  

Information will also be collected directly from you, or generated as part of your participation: 

  • your responses to surveys with the platform 

  • your reflections on goals and your learning progress. 

  • feedback generated and provided to you as part of the process 

  • actions logs generated by use of the application.  

Using information 

We will use your information for the following purposes: 

  • To provide and manage your access to the LEARNING JOURNEYS platform. 

  • To communicate with you while you are a user of the platform in relation to your use of LEARNING JOURNEYS 

  • To support your learning outcomes 

  • For quality improvement and planning purposes, including strategic planning.  

  • For research purposes. Data created and held in LEARNING JOURNEYS will be integrated by us with other data we hold in order to explore statistical relationships only. All data for this purpose will be anonymised and analysed at the cohort level, not at the individual level.  

You will be advised if data that may identify you will be used for further research in accordance with UTS Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) approval.  

The software vendor, WILD Learning Ltd, use analytics services provided by Google Analytics to collect and analyse anonymous usage information to better understand how the services are used and to support improvement processes.  

Disclosing information 

Information will not be disclosed unless you have provided your consent, it is required or permitted by law, or where it is anonymised and subject to HREC approval for the purposes of research. 

Managing your data 

Data held within LEARNING JOURNEYS will be stored under contract on our behalf by WILD Learning Ltd. The data will be held primarily in Sydney, but will be backed up in the UK. In addition to this privacy notice, data will also be managed in line with the WILD Privacy Notice and User Terms and Conditions. 

Assessments will be held in the system itself for 2 years before they are deleted or anonymised. A copy of your data may also be extracted and held at UTS to facilitate the purposes referred to above. Data will otherwise be retained in line with our legal retention obligations under the NSW State Records Act 1998.  

Your rights 

Using LEARNING JOURNEYS is completely voluntary. Once you have provided consent and are using LEARNING JOURNEYS, you can choose to withdraw your consent at any time.  

You can access the information held about you directly from LEARNING JOURNEYS, and re-test yourself to update your information at any time. Access will only be available for current students and staff. If you no longer have direct access, you will need to make a request. 

You can also request a correction to any inaccurate information that you cannot change, or request your information be deleted.
