About the course

This course develops manufacturing‑ready capability in upstream bioprocessing, with a strong focus on applying foundational knowledge in realistic GMP environments. 

Participants complete targeted online learning to align understanding of upstream theory and terminology, before undertaking an intensive, hands‑on practical program at the BIF. The in‑person component centres on operating upstream equipment, working with batch documentation, and interpreting process data to support informed manufacturing decisions.

The course emphasises how cell line, media, process control, and Design of Experiments (DoE) approaches influence scalability, robustness, and downstream performance. Participants will also explore how process data and quality control (QC) results support informed manufacturing decisions, helping them engage confidently in upstream operations and broader biomanufacturing discussions.

  • Support the setup and operation of single‑use bioreactors in a GMP environment
