In a momentous recognition of scholarly excellence, Shuo Yang from Visual and Aural Intelligence Lab (VAIL) has been honoured with the prestigious Dean's Award for his remarkable research achievements and the culmination of his doctoral thesis.

His ground-breaking research outcomes have pushed the boundaries of knowledge within his field but have also garnered widespread acclaim and recognition from peers and mentors alike. Overcoming several challenges in the field of modern machine learning, Shuo’s innovative contributions focus on enhancing the generalisation ability and robustness of artificial intelligence models in the face of imperfect data distribution. Shuo's journey remarks two prestigious journal publications on IEEE T-PAMI (Q1 Journal in Journal Citation Report (JCR), Impact Factor: 23.6) and seven tier-one conferences in the fields of machine learning, computer vision, and multimedia, such as ICML, ICLR, CVPR, and ACM MM. His work has been cited 855 times on Google Scholar, with an H-index of 13 and an i10-index of 14. In 2022, Shuo received the prestigious Google Ph.D. Fellowship in the field of machine perception, speech technology, and computer vision, which was established to honour graduate students excelling in innovative research in computer science and related areas.

Shuo acknowledges the invaluable guidance and support provided by his esteemed PhD supervisor, Prof. Min Xu, whose expertise and mentorship have been instrumental throughout the research journey. Additionally, the invaluable resources and collaborative environment fostered by the Visual and Aural Intelligence Lab (VAIL) within the School of Electrical and Data Engineering and Global Big Data Technology Centre (GBDTC) provided a fertile ground for exploration and discovery.

As Shuo's scholarly journey continues to unfold, we eagerly anticipate the continued impact of his research endeavours and the contributions he will undoubtedly make to advancing knowledge and understanding in his field.
