The Faculty of Design and Society was established as a new faculty in 2025. It combined the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building, and the UTS Animal Logic Academy.
The Faculty of Design and Society is an innovative, vibrant faculty and an integral part of one of Australia’s leading universities of technology. It contributes to the transformation of society, urban life, contemporary design and the built environment through research, education and engagement with professions, industry, government and media.

Our schools
School of Architecture and School of Built Environment
Our teaching and research staff in the School of Architecture and the School of Built Environment explore creative and innovative ways to develop urban spaces that address critical issues of our time including reducing climate impact, waste, and crime and providing healthy, socially inclusive cities and communities. This is achieved through interdisciplinary research and teaching bringing together expertise in:

- economics.
School of Design
The UTS School of Design is one of the world's ‘top 50’ art and design schools as ranked in 2024 QS World University Rankings by subject with teaching and research conducted by design academics, researchers and practitioners specialising in:
- fashion and textiles
- visual communication
- product design
- design studies.
We also partner with TAFE through the Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Fashion + Textiles.
School of Communication
The School of Communication prepares students for careers in public communication including:
- creative production
- screen arts and production
- creative writing
- journalism
- advertising
- public relations
- corporate, marketing, and government communication
- specialist areas such as health communication
- a broad range of fields through study and research in the social sciences.
School of International Studies and Education
The School of International Studies and Education is a broad school of applied humanities offering courses in:
- criminology
- learning design
- educational leadership and organisational learning
- international studies and languages
- sustainability and environment
- teacher education
- TESOL and applied linguistics.
