Learning with Country, learning from Country

At the UTS Institute for Education, Indigenous knowledge is embedded in our programs utilising Country as Teacher pedagogical philosophy. UTS education students graduate with a desire to know, understand and care for the places they inhabit, and embed this in their own future teaching practice. In this way, the Institute goes beyond traditional Western approaches and recognises Indigenous knowledge as the fundamental basis from which education in Australia should be built. This work is led by Professor Benny Wilson with the support of Indigenous and non-Indigenous allies.

About the Institute for Education

Preparing Educators. Supporting Educational Leaders. Transforming Learning.

The UTS Institute for Education prepares future educators, supports professional learning and leadership, and partners with schools, communities and workplaces to improve learning outcomes.

Through our programs in Primary Education, Secondary Education, TESOL and Applied Linguistics, Learning Design and Technology, and Education Learning and Leadership, we combine research-informed teaching with authentic professional experience to prepare graduates for diverse educational settings.

We work alongside educators throughout their careers, offering professional learning, mentoring, leadership development and expertise in learning design and educational technology. Through collaborative partnerships with schools, government, community organisations and industry, we undertake research, evaluation and innovation that address real-world educational challenges.

Across all areas of our work, we are committed to embedding Country as Teacher, advancing inclusion and equity, and creating culturally responsive and future-focused approaches to education.

Centre for Research on Education in a Digital Society

The Centre for Research on Education in a Digital Society works with stakeholders across learning contexts, in taking sociocultural and human-centred approaches to understanding technology in practice. We focus on the dynamic relationship between technology and learning, reflecting that how we learn (with technology) is fundamentally intertwined with what we learn (about technology).
