The Honours Program in Economics is an advanced study course for high-achieving students.

The program delivers cutting-edge coursework and research training for students who plan to pursue a career in applied research in government or in the private sector, or who wish to undertake a doctoral research program. Students receive training in current research methods and are required to develop an original academic research project on a topic of their choosing under supervision of economics faculty.

Specifically, the program includes a coursework of advanced training in Econometrics, Microeconomics, and Macroeconomics in the first semester, while the second semester is almost entirely devoted to the development of an original research thesis.

Why choose UTS Honours in Economics?

UTS Honours in Economics is practice-oriented and provides an excellent training in Data Analysis, Programming, and Policy Development and Evaluation

The small size of the class allows for continuous feedback and constant supervision by the lecturers and invites cooperation among students. The individual assessments are devised in order to foster the individual capacity of problem-solving in a creative and original fashion. The period of work exclusively dedicated to the thesis lets each student to become an expert in the particular topic in economics that they chose to investigate.

For these reasons, UTS Honours in Economics is highly valued by public and private employers. Graduates from UTS Honours in Economics are currently employed by the RBA, ACCC, local governments, consulting and financial companies (like Deloitte, Urbis, Corview, Allianz, and NAB, among others). Those who have continued their studies have been admitted to prestigious Master (LSE, Oxford) and PhD (UNSW, UTS) Programs.
