Step-by-step application guide

1. Choose your program

Are you applying as an exchange or a study abroad student? Depending on your answer, the programs you can undertake will change. See your options on our choose your program page.

2. Check your eligibility

Check that you meet the entry requirements for study abroad and exchange.

3. Discuss your study options with your home university (if applicable)

If you want to receive academic credit for your studies at UTS, speak with your home university to understand your application and credit transfer requirements.

If you are applying as an exchange student, make sure:

  • your home institution is a UTS exchange partner
  • you are nominated by your home institution before applying to UTS

4. Choose your subjects

Explore our subjects and academic information page to learn how to select subjects and create your study plan. If you study in Australia on a student visa, you must enrol in a minimum of 18 UTS credit points per session.

If you plan to receive academic credit from your home institution, discuss your preferred subjects with them before applying.

5. Apply to UTS

Study abroad students

  • If you are applying via an agent or partner institution, a scanned copy of your application, with certified and translated supporting documents, must be submitted by your agent or home institution to saex.applications@uts.edu.au.
  • If you are applying directly to UTS, complete the online application form and email your application to saex.applications@uts.edu.au. Your home institution must send any certified and translated supporting documents directly to the same email address. UTS does not accept academic transcripts submitted directly by students.

Exchange students

  • Ensure your home university nominates you by the nomination deadline.
  • We will then send you a link to apply online.
  • Complete and submit the online application, along with any supporting documents.

If you are having problems during the application process, please contact studyabroad.exchange@uts.edu.au.

6. Receive your UTS offer

UTS will assess your application. If you are successful, UTS will issue an electronic Letter of Offer and start to prepare your study plan. The average time frame to process applications is 2 to 3 weeks.

7. Accept your offer and receive your Confirmation of Enrolment

You must formally accept your offer and, if applicable, pay your tuition fees to UTS. Once UTS receives your acceptance, evidence of Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) (if applicable) and tuition fees, you will receive a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE).

The CoE is an official document issued by UTS and is required when applying for an Australian student visa.

Confirmation of Enrolments for Study Abroad and Exchange students are usually issued about 2 months prior to the start of the session:

  • Autumn Session: Confirmation of Enrolments are issued by late November to early December
  • Spring Session: Confirmation of Enrolments are issued by late May to early June.
