Special Course subjects provide postgraduate engineering students with a flexible approach to completing the requirements of their course in the following ways:

  • Students may need to enrol in a subject worth less than the normal 6 credit points to meet the total number of credit points required to complete their course. In such a case, a small project is identified and completed to make up the required credit points.
  • Students can complete one or more special projects supervised by a member of academic staff of the faculty.
  • Credit can be gained by completing one or more short courses offered by UTS:Engineering or other approved providers.

Enrolment in a Special Course subject requires the approval of the Director, Teaching and Learning (see Faculty contacts), and the student must be able to demonstrate a need that is consistent with the other requirements of their course.

Enrolment procedure

  1. Secure an Academic Supervisor.
  2. Complete the Special Course Enrolment Form and Learning Contract with your Academic Supervisor.
  3. Submit an eRequest.
  • Attach a scanned copy of your Enrolment Form & Learning Contract signed by your Supervisor to your eRequest. Incomplete documentation will not be accepted.
  • The form should be submitted as soon as possible, but no later than the Friday of Week 1 of the first session in which you wish to enrol.

Important note: Where changes are made to the Learning Contract after you have enrolled, it is your responsibility to submit a revised Learning Contract (signed by all parties).
