• Circumstances for eligibility

  Please note that while you may meet the eligibility criteria, this may not result in automatic approval.

  Valid circumstances

  • You are ill on the day of your centrally-conducted exam.
  • You have not attempted any part of the centrally-conducted exam.
  • You have suffered a misadventure.
  • Your circumstance is unforeseen and out of your control.

  Not valid circumstances

  • You have attempted or accessed (viewed or downloaded) any part of your centrally-conducted exam - apply for Special Consideration.
  • You were aware of your circumstances prior to your centrally-conducted exam - you may be eligible to apply for Scheduling Difficulties before the closing date.
  • You have missed a faculty-based exam - apply for Special Consideration.

  Supporting Documents/Evidence

  When completing your online application, you must choose your reason for applying. Depending on the grounds for your application, a list of relevant supporting documents will be listed. 

  • For health-related matters, a registered medical practitioner, psychologist, UTS Student Counsellor (or other registered counsellor) must complete the Professional Authority Form accurately and in full, with all mandatory fields completed. The dates specified on your Professional Authority form must cover the date of your missed exam, in order for your application to be assessed.​​​
  • If you missed an examination because of religious circumstances/obligations (not health-related matters), please supply either a letter from a minister of religion (e.g. a rabbi, priest, imam) on an official letterhead (it is not necessary to fill in the professional authority section) OR a copy of the announcement from the Grand Mufti of Australia and/or the Australian Fatwa Council confirming the dates for the Day of Arafah and the Day of Eid al-Adha.
  • If you missed an examination because of a breakdown in your travel arrangements that were unforeseen and beyond your control, you must attach appropriate evidence (it is not necessary to fill in the professional authority section) such as a letter from a Station Master, an NRMA docket or a service station account. You will still be required to apply online and upload this documentation.

• Steps to take

  Apply online for an alternative exam after you have missed a centrally conducted exam. You must apply within two (2) working days of the missed exam.

  • Log into My Student Portal with your UTS credentials
  • Select the subject you wish to apply for.
    When your circumstances affect more than one exam, you must submit a separate application for each subject and attach your supporting documents to each application. 
    If your subject is visible but unavailable for selection, you may have missed the two working day application window. If extenuating circumstances prevented you from applying within two working days, please email alternative.exams@uts.edu.au with your supporting documents.
  • Select your reason for applying and upload your supporting documents. You can upload multiple files.
    Note: If you do not have your supporting documents yet, select Save Draft and return before the deadline to upload them.
  • Tick the Personal Consent box and click Submit. You must attach your supporting documents and submit before the deadline.

  Check your UTS webmail account regularly, as UTS may contact you for further documentation by a set deadline. You will be notified of the outcome of your application via your UTS webmail account.

  The university may take disciplinary action if you submit false or misleading documents.

  You cannot apply for an alternative exam if you: 

  • attempted or accessed (viewed or downloaded) any part of a centrally-conducted exam. If you attempt part of a centrally-conducted exam, you may apply for special consideration.
  • missed a faculty-based exam. If you miss a faculty-based exam, contact your Faculty.
