After you apply

Congratulations on applying for a research degree! Here’s what you can expect to happen.

Once you lodge your application online, you’ll receive an email acknowledgement to the address that you used to register your account.

You can monitor the progress of your application and add additional supporting documentation in the UTS Student Portal.

Assessing your application

The application assessment process is slightly different for Australian and international students.

Domestic students

After receiving your application, we’ll:

assess your documentation and references
complete an academic assessment, and
let you know the outcome (we aim to provide a decision about your application within 12 weeks but there may be factors out of our control that might delay a decision).

International students

After receiving your application, we’ll:

assess your documentation and references

In some cases we may ask international students to work with a UTS authorised agent to complete important checks for your student visa (opens external site) including the Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) and Genuine Student (GS) checks.

If your application is accepted

You’ll receive an email from us confirming the outcome, your start date, scholarship status and information on how to accept your offer.

Confirmation for your visa

Once your application has been accepted, we will send you a confirmation of enrolment (CoE). International students can use this to apply for an Australian visa.

Unfortunately, we have no control over how long the visa application process will take, so it’s best to contact the Australian Department of Home Affairs (opens external site) for further information.
