This display presents two photographic series by Cherine Fahd in celebration of the recent donation of four of her works to the UTS Art Collection.

For over twenty years, Cherine Fahd's (b. 1974) work in photography and video has explored notions of identity and belonging, challenging the standards of traditional portraiture and our assumptions about gender and the body.

The dynamic between photographer and subject and the inventive potential of photography are defining features of Fahd's work. Her photographs are intensely social. Whether staged in the studio or candidly taken on the street, her projects often recruit her immediate family, friends, and community for real and surreal tableaux. Intimacy, touch, and the performativity of everyday life are subjects she returns to again over time.
