About the program
This program integrates key areas from the UTS Transport Research Centre, including traffic optimisation, strategic planning and service engineering. By integrating these focus areas, the program aims to develop comprehensive solutions that balance economic and social impacts with engineering innovations, ensuring transportation networks are responsive to current and future demands.
Research focus areas
- Traffic optimisation: Developing intelligent tools and strategies to assist transport authorities in identifying optimal combinations of travel demand management options and infrastructure modifications. The goal is to create a more sustainable, efficient, and safe transport network by realistically modelling human-vehicle interactions within an integrated multi-modal system. ​
- Strategic planning: Focusing on long-term transport network development, this area involves forecasting demand, assessing infrastructure needs, and shaping policies to ensure an integrated, resilient, and adaptive transport system. It includes scenario planning, land-use and transport integration, corridor planning, and investment prioritisation. By aligning transport policies with broader economic and urban development goals, the program supports decision-making that enhances mobility, accessibility, and sustainability.​
- Service engineering: Examining user responses to changes in the Level of Service (LOS) offered by road and public transport networks for both passengers and freight. This aspect incorporates business data analytics as applied to transportation engineering, addressing principles of business development, client relations, demographic influences, and socio-economics related to transport infrastructure feasibility, asset management, and maintenance. ​
