CEMPE’s defining plan incorporates the following mission and objectives.

Mission

The Centre for Electric Machines and Power Electronics is a team of academic and technical staff, who have diverse areas of expertise in magnetic materials, power electronics and drives, control and optimisation, and power systems, conducting cutting edge research in the area of electrical power and energy systems and training of postgraduate coursework and research students. 

The Centre was established in 1999 by the late Professor Vic Ramsden. Currently, Professor Dylan Lu is the Lab Lead. 

The main mission of the Centre is to benefit humanity through the application of electrical machines, electromagnetics, magnetic materials, power electronics, control electronics, control engineering, power systems and smart grid and related expertise in high-quality research and significant industrial projects.

In 2019, a new Electrical Power and Energy Systems lab was set up at UTS Tech Lab where most of the research activities are conducted. 

Objectives

  • Conduct advanced fundamental and contract research in relevant fields;
  • Arrange and supervise postgraduate research projects;
  • Present undergraduate, postgraduate and short courses;
  • Design electric motors, generators, power electronic converters and controllers;
  • Test and construct prototypes; and
  • Undertake limited production.
