Becoming Australia - 54098

Becoming Australia is an elective subject undertaken by students in their second or third year of the Bachelor of Communications or Bachelor of International Studies. More info. Title: Hyde Park: The Preservation of Silence or the Memorialisation of Truth?

Description: A reflective piece of writing that considers the histories remembered by the different monuments in Sydney’s Hyde Park and the inter-relationships between them. Read the piece.

 

Student name: Sarah Willing

Type of work: Historical/speculative fiction

Title: Thursday 28th December 1989

Description: Fictionalisation of the experiences of the first nurse on the scene at the Newcastle Workers Club during the 1989 Newcastle Earthquake, based on research and an oral history with the nurse, Lesley Salem (née Elvin), who is the author’s aunt. The author has asked us to note that their aunt’s married name is Lesley Salem (described as Lesley Elvin in story as this was correct at time). Read the story.
