Social justice plays an important role at UTS. It's reflected in everything we do, from research to teaching and student life. Everyone in the UTS community can help us make an impact.

Interested in contributing to meaningful change during your time at UTS? Here are some places you can start:

UTS SOUL Award

SOUL is a free social justice and leadership program for all students. The two-part program includes the SOUL badge and the SOUL award, which involve 35 and 55 hours of social impact activities such as volunteering, advocacy work or community building. You'll also have access to workshops, training and events where you can meet like-minded students and skill up to create meaningful change.

UTS Shopfront

Shopfront is a work-integrated learning program that connects students with community organisations through coursework projects. Students work on real-world challenges, producing strategies, reports, plans, videos and more. It's a perfect way for students to make a meaningful impact through their course.

This experience helped me understand how marketing can be used as a tool for social good, not just for commercial outcomes.

UTSSA collectives

Collectives are like-minded communities within the UTS Students' Association. They provide a safe, supportive space to connect with others, advocate for important issues and contribute to positive change in the university and wider community. From the Women’s collective to the Enviro collective and Ethnocultural collective, you're bound to find your place.

The Women’s Collective is the UTS Students' Association’s organisation dedicated to feminism activism.

Get involved through your faculty

At UTS, social justice isn't just something you do outside of your studies or on the weekend. It's also weaved into your studies.

  • Law students can participate in the Brennan Justice and Leadership program. The program gives students opportunities to explore justice issues through lectures, discussion groups and community volunteering.
  • Engineering students can get involved with the Engineers Without Borders (EWB) program. EWB uses engineering to address humanitarian issues and also runs conferences, competitions and school outreach for young people to learn about engineering.
