The University of Technology Sydney joins the ranks of the top 8 universities in Australia.

UTS has climbed to 7th in Australia – and 145th in the world – in the 2026 Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

Strong performance on a number of measures, particularly research quality, industry and international outlook, has led to the continuing rise of our nation-leading technology university in the global rankings.

UTS is 2nd in Australia and in the top 50 universities in the world for research quality, reflecting the excellence, influence and impact of its world-class research efforts.

The university also improved performance across a range of teaching, industry and research environment indicators.

Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Andrew Parfitt said the strong results reflected the excellence and hard work of academics and professional staff, notably during a time when the sector was facing significant challenges.

“During a difficult period for universities, it’s important to take stock of our many achievements in research and education programs that achieve national and global impact," he said.

“Our world-class expertise in disciplines ranging from artificial intelligence to nursing or delivering practical solutions with industry such as construction robots or coral reef restoration, are all examples of what we can be proud of at UTS.”

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings is one of the most trusted global providers of ranking and performance data on universities around the world. The 2026 edition assessed 2,191 research-intensive institutions from 115 countries and territories.

UTS’s strong performance mirrors that in the other major global rankings this year, reaching the top 100 universities in the world in the 2026 QS World University Rankings, where it ranked first in Australia and in the top 50 in the world for research excellence.

“I wish to acknowledge the work of the UTS community for its commitment to the continuing success of our university,” said Professor Parfitt.
