The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) has retained its place as one of the top 100 universities in the world in two major rankings.
UTS has been ranked 96th in the world, and 9th in Australia, in the 2026 QS World University Rankings which assessed 8,467 institutions in 106 countries worldwide.
It is the third consecutive year UTS has been placed in the top 100 universities globally in the QS Rankings.
Research excellence was a key driver of this outstanding global performance, with UTS ranked 1st in Australia and 33rd in the world on one of its key measures – research citations per faculty.
UTS also saw a significant rise in its academic reputation score, further highlighting the university’s rapidly-growing stature as home to a range of world-class research.
Sustainability was another area where UTS continued to perform strongly, being ranked 47th in the world and 5th in Australia for social and environmental impact.
The top 100 result was replicated in a second global ranking, being placed 83rd in the world and 6th in Australia and New Zealand in the US News and World Report Best Global Universities 2025-26.
Research again drove this world-class result, with an outstanding global rank of 11th for regional research reputation.
Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Andrew Parfitt, hailed the strong ranking results as a reflection of the hard work and dedication of talented staff delivering high-quality research and teaching with global impact.
“Being recognised once again among the top 100 universities in the world in these prestigious global rankings is a great achievement that recognises the outstanding contribution of all our staff,” Professor Parfitt said.
“It speaks to our growing reputation as a university leading the way in research excellence – research that is making a real difference to the businesses and governments we partner with, and to the communities we serve.”
The QS World University Rankings ranks thousands of universities worldwide across five key areas: research and discovery, employability and outcomes, learning experience, global engagement and sustainability.
The US News and World Report Best Global Universities ranks institutions for more than 100 countries across widely accepted indicators of excellence including resarch reputation, publications, citations and collaborations.
