UTS has again secured a place among the top universities in the world in a major academic ranking.

UTS is one of only seven Australian universities to improve their ranking in the 2025 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), placing in the top 201-300 band globally and top 9-13 group in Australia.

The strong performance was underpinned by gains in several widely-adopted measures of research quality including the number of highly cited researchers and research papers published in top-tier journals.

Released by Shanghai Ranking, the ARWU is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious university rankings, evaluating more than 2,500 institutions globally and publishes the top 1,000.

UTS Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Andrew Parfitt, welcomed the result.

This strong performance in another major global ranking is further evidence UTS is being recognised for the excellence in our research and academic performance.

“In addition to again being placed in the top 100 universities in the world in the QS Rankings, this new result highlights how UTS academic staff are being acknowledged on the world stage.”

The ARWU evaluates universities based on six indicators: the number of staff and alumni winning Nobel Prizes and field medals, highly cited researchers, papers published in leading academic journals, papers published in science and social science journals, and per capita academic performance.
